Southport Shooting Today – Three Killed, Six Injured in American Fish Company Waterfront Attack
A deadly shooting at the American Fish Company, a waterfront entertainment venue in Southport, North Carolina, on September 27, 2025, left three people dead and six others injured, prompting a major law-enforcement response along the city’s waterfront.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the Southport Yacht Basin. Investigators said a person aboard a boat opened fire toward people gathered near the waterfront venue before fleeing by water.
Victims Identified
The three people killed were later identified as Joy Rogers, 64, of Southport; Solomon Banjo, 36, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Michael Durbin, 56, of Galena, Ohio.
Six other people were injured in the shooting. The city identified them as Jackson Schurtz, William Parent, John Barlow, Lauren Buscher, Thomas Lafferty, and Tammy Hirt-Huff. City officials later said all six injured victims had been released from the hospital.
The shooting devastated the waterfront community as investigators worked to establish exactly what led to the gunfire and identify the person responsible.
Suspect Arrested
Authorities identified the suspect as Nigel Edge, 40, of Oak Island. According to investigators, a U.S. Coast Guard crew spotted a person matching the suspect’s description at a public boat ramp on Oak Island. Edge was subsequently taken into custody and charged in connection with the shooting.
The reported charges include three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five assault charges.
Police alleged that Edge fired from a boat toward the crowd gathered at the waterfront. Authorities also described the location as having been targeted and characterized the attack as highly premeditated.
